Step 1: Identifying change leaders: The first step in the change process is to appoint a steering committee to oversee the workplace change program. These change leaders will be the key decision makers with regard to the change management effort, and should possess both management as well as leadership abilities. People throughout the organization will look to this group to expertly and sensitively guide them through upcoming transitions. In this section we will learn essential details regarding this important first step in leading a change program
Step 2: Articulating change vision: The first task for the steering committee is to articulate a clear vision on why people should work together to create their desired future state. A strong vision for the change management program will establish the foundation upon which to establish goals and develop effective implementation strategies. In this section, we will review the necessary steps to outlining vision and goals
Step 3: Empowering change ambassadors: One of the most effective ways to begin to communicate the change is to appoint a committee of staff members to act as representatives of the various groups involved in your transition. This committee of change agents will be the voice of those they represent, conveying information to your organization’s leadership and carrying news back to their colleagues. In this module, we will review important considerations when appointing agents of change
Step 4: Developing effective communications: Once the vision has been articulated and your change agents have been appointed, it is time to begin to communicate the change. A multi-level communications plan will be critical to your success and will be implemented throughout the life of your change management program. In this module, we will review the many facets of developing an effective communications plan
Step 5: Engaging stakeholders: Engaging stakeholders in the change process is critical to your success in leading change. To engage the staff at all levels is to put “top down, bottom up” in action. Staff engagement will assure that your change vision is realized and that the changes will be sustainable over time. This module provides high-level guidance for engaging stakeholders in the change management process
Step 6: Supporting and reinforcing change: The final step in the change management process is to provide support and reinforce new behaviors in order to sustain the change. This is a very important step, not to be overlooked or underestimated. Much has been invested in the change program, and to truly realize your return on investment, this final step is critical to your success. In this module, we will review ways to provide ways to provide support and reinforce ongoing change
